After 2 days all about the boys, OK, all about Ben (Pump It Up, Chuckee Cheese, 49er game, the movies to see Clone Wars) we decided it was time for a day for Mom and Dad. We headed to San Jose to the annual Art and Wine Festival. However, notice all the photos of Ben enjoying himself on various rides...the festival was a flop. The crappy economy meant less people than usual, less art/crafts to look at and buy - in fact, all we bought was 1 birthday card. But, they did have a kid area, and for the "bargain" price of $20 Ben got 8 rides.
Today we headed to the beach (Santa Cruz). In all the years Bill and I have been together, this is the first time ever he's actually gone to a beach to sit and relax (oh, apart from when we were in Maui, but there was a bar on the beach, and you can do anything with a Pina Colada inside you). I love the beach, I love the sun, I love to people watch...Bill clearly does not enjoy it. Walking from the car to the beach he bitched and moaned (which I found very amusing). Within minutes of sitting down he was up looking for a bathroom. Of course, the second he was out of sight, Ben decided he also needed to "go" - typical. After a picnic lunch, yes, Bill even ate sandwiches on the beach, and Ben had played in the ocean and Jonathan had eaten sand and paddled in the waters edge we decided to hit the Boardwalk. Unfortunately, we didn't realize how busy it would be, the lines for every ride were soooo long, sadly, Ben only got to ride a couple of "sissy rides", but, Ben and Bill did go on the gondola. I walked to the opposite end of the boardwalk to meet them...if you look closely, you can almost see Bill saying to Ben "where's your Mom, I don't see her anywhere, grrrrrrrr" - then - they saw me and the expression changed - cracked me up watching him.

Today is Ben's 5th birthday. We had breakfast out, followed by a trip to Gilroy Gardens. Ben rode the rides - sorry, no photos, whenever I tried to take his photo he would hide his face. Tonight we had dinner at Kyoto Palace - followed by ice-cream cake at home.
